Archaeological Museum of Alicante – MARQ

[IT] All'interno del museo archeologico di Alicante in Spagna è stata allestita una particolare galleria, dedicata alla romanità. Nel mezzo della galleria viene proiettata una presentazione audiovisiva su due grandi schermi laterali, che mostrano i luoghi e gli aspetti della vita di Lucentum. È un viaggio nella città romana di cui i visitatori sono i protagonisti stessi. I due schermi immergono il visitatore in una scena: ogni schermo mostra due prospettive dello stesso luogo. Per esempio, nel caso di una strada, uno schermo mostra un lato della strada, mentre l'altro schermo visualizzerà l'altro lato, in modo che agli spettatori sembri di essere realmente nella strada come parte di quella scena urbana. Un grande sforzo è stato fatto per ricreare l'architettura della città e l'area circostante in computer grafica. All'interno di questo mondo virtuale, creato da Jorge Molina, alcune persone reali sono state inserite per riportare in vita l'antica città. L'ambiente, gli abiti e l'aspetto delle persone e dei dettagli architettonici sono tutti relativi al I secolo d.C. Il visitatore può collegare queste immagini ai resti che si sono conservati nel sito di el Tossal de Manises, come in un'istantanea che riproduce l'aspetto della città Romana. In alternativa, le rovine del sito possono essere visitate subito per poi passare alla ricostruzione virtuale disponibile nel museo.

[EN] In the archaeological museum of Alicante, Spain, there is a peculiar gallery, all dedicated to the Roman world. In the centre of the gallery, an audio-visual presentation is projected on two large screens on both sides, which show different locations and aspects of life in Lucentum. This is a journey inside a Roman town whose protagonists are the visitors themselves. The two immersive opposing screens let the visitor enter the scene, proposing the two perspectives of the same place. For example, in the case of a street, one screen shows one side of the street and the other screen the other side, in such a way that the spectators feel to be actually in the street. A great effort has been made in recreating the town’s architecture and surrounding area through the use of computer graphics. Within this virtual world, created by Jorge Molina, real people have been included and they bring the ancient town to life. The settings, clothing, aspects of the people and the architectural finishings, all belong to the 1st century AD. The visitor to the gallery can relate these images with the remains that have been preserved at the site of el Tossal de Manises “in situ” and remember, in a snapshot of time, what a Roman town looked like. Moreover, the ruins of the site can be first visited, followed by the virtual experience at the museum.
